Annapolis County Citizens:

The County of Annapolis intends to deny High Speed Internet to 27% of us residents.

We represent an informal group of concerned citizens in the Perotte and Graywood communities of Annapolis County. We are alarmed by Annapolis County’s recently announced Fibre Optics Build for the Valley, which excludes our communities on the South Mountain, and several areas on the North Mountain.

The County is offering speeds of 1000 MBPS to residential customers, and speeds of 10,000 MBPS to business customers. For the rest of us, they are suggesting we can get by with 10 MBPS, with a wireless or satellite signal.

Valley residential speeds will be 100 times faster, and businesses speeds will be 1,000 times faster than what they are willing to leave us with, given that wireless and satellite signals can be variable and succeptible to weather conditions.

By comparison, the speeds being offered to the Valley are over 600 times faster (residential) and over 6,000 times faster (businesses) than current Eastlink Wireless service speeds.

As taxpayers who need proper Internet speeds for our residential, business and health needs in this reality of COVID 19, we oppose the County’s division of our communities into Have’s and Have-Nots.
